Daily Breakfast

Every weekday I have the same thing for breakfast.  I know it sounds like a very boring life but, there are so many different variations you can do!  It is just a basic protein shake.  It is really important for your body to get a lot of protein, especially while dieting.  It keeps you full longer and jump starts your metabolism.  I found this really good little blip on about.com about protein consumption.

How much protein do we need?

Our protein needs depend on our age, size, and activity level. The standard method used by nutritionists to estimate our minimum daily protein requirement is to multiply the body weight in kilograms by .8, or weight in pounds by .37. This is the number of grams of protein that should be the daily minimum. According to this method, a person weighing 150 lbs. should eat 55 grams of protein per day, a 200-pound person should get 74 grams, and a 250-pound person should eat 92 grams.
*(note to figure out your weight in kg divide your weight in lbs by 2.2)

That means that I should be getting around 56 grams of protein A DAY!  That is a lot of protein.  To get to the goal everyday I need to have the protein shake I make.  The protein Mike got me hooked on is called Myofusion.  I like it because a scoop has only 3g of fat, 147 calories and 25g of protein!  It also comes in a variety of flavors like chocolate, banana, strawberry, vanilla, chocolate peanut butter and more!  This would  not be a good protein for anyone who is lactose intolerant or vegan, it does contain egg albumin and milk proteins.  If you are interested in it you can find it at gnc, gnc.com or bodybuilding.com.

Breakfast Smoothie:

I start with a cup of frozen fruit (this is where the variety comes in).  I switch it up between blueberries, strawberries, mango, and whatever is on sale/the cheapest.  I am not the biggest fan of the raspberries and blackberries because of the seeds.  This mornings fruit of choice were big beautiful frozen strawberries!

I throw the strawberries into the blender along with a cup of cold water.  Then I add a large teaspoon of fiber.
and a scoop of Myofusion (this flavor is cookies and cream, my favorite!)
Throw the lid on and blend it up till smooth!

Yes, I am one of 4 Americans that own and actually use a magic bullet!  It is great for this type of thing.  Individual and easy to clean.  Which as Mike will tell you the easier to clean the better or it probably won't get done!

This little number will keep my tummy quiet till about 10:00, which I think is pretty good since I typically consume it around 6:45.  At 10:00 I have either almonds, fruit (typically a clementine) or both if my hunger level is off the charts or I can tell that I am getting snippy and my co-workers want to kill me!

  1. So cool that you have a food blog!

This sounds delish Colie! What is benefiber and why do you add it? Do I have to add it? Also, where can I get a Magic Bullet? I love raspberries and blackberries. Giant Food always has their frozen fruit on sale. Thanks!

  2. You are supposed to get 20-30 grams of fiber a day! I know I do a good job of eating a lot of fruits and veggies but, I still don't think I reach that goal so, it is an easy way to add a little extra. You definitely do not have to add it, it doesn't change the flavor. I think you can get the magic bullet at walmart and if not you can by them on amazon or directly from the magic bullet website. Thanks for reading my blog Becky!!

  3. Sounds delicious... I used to do a variation when I wasn't traveling as much with strawberry, activia yogurt (non-fat), half a banana, and almond breeze (non-fat).
